Synne, Patron of the Camdene

Synne
Keeper of Nature’s Balance
Domains: Hunting, Gathering, Nature
Holy Symbol: A Stone Hatchet

“Maw and claw, tree and sea, are precious and must persist, you see.”

Synne is the first of the Eternals and the first to make their race, the Camdene Elves. He is commonly depicted as a Camdene elven man with a heavily scarred face, carrying with him a hatchet made of stone. The stone hatchet being one of Synne’s first tools, and he keeps it both out of fondness for the tool and as a symbol. Since the beginning, Synne has cared about nature deeply, and took it upon himself to protect it and foster its proper use for its continuation and preservation.

Tenets
Synne is not deluded into believing that the protection of nature forbids its use. Nature and its bounty are to be used by all, in whatever way it is needed most. The primary concern with Synne and Synne’s followers is that no matter how it is used, things should be used properly and to their fullest extent. This became the central tenet in the following of Synne.

“Use all parts of a kill or a harvest. Only the fool regards unused resources as refuse.”

The second of his tenets, but one that goes hand in hand with the first, is that you must only take what you need. Synne does not believe in the needless stockpiling of resources. As it leads only to misuse and waste. Synne’s followers are expected to not carry an abundance of anything with them, so long as they are able to meet their own needs.

“Make sure your needs are met, and nothing more. Do this so that the needs of others may be met.”

Synne’s final tenet has to do with the give that comes with the take of being able to freely benefit from the land. Followers of Synne are encouraged to give back to the land and ensure through whatever means they can that the land is both healthy and safe. This comes not only in the form of fostering life, but also in the form of advising others in proper use, and various forms of prevention.

“The goal is mutual survival. Foster life, teach, and prevent undue death.

Clergy
Clergy of Synne tend to take on a more advisory role in the lives of others. They make sure that everyone has the knowledge necessary to enact Synne’s will. They teach others proper use of the world around them to the best of their abilities. Others take a more hands on approach and act as hunters or farmers. Even further still, there are some who avoid society in general so they may keep an active hand in the keeping of nature’s balance.

The Church
The Church of Synne tends to be more involved with communities than one would initially expect of a church dedicated to nature’s conservation. They actively assist with and coordinate the gathering of resources, working closely with the people of the area that the church works with. The Church itself acts as a unifying body, assisting in meeting the needs of all who live in the area.
